Yep, it's a song about the fear of death. Many of us would like to live forever, simply because the notion of not existing is too scary. The circle of life is beautiful and absolutely necessary.
Death itself is not a negative, once you're dead. Nor is it a positive- it's nothing. There's no suffering or regret for the dead and therefore it's not something that merits such worry. Enjoy life while you're here!
lyrics
Oh, the perception of a piece of dirt
It's so deluded it actually thinks it wants to
Live forever
Oh, the perspective at a funeral
And who could ever understand completely
That they're going to die soon?
Decomposition is the seed of life
The only thing you'll ever know for certain
Is that one day you'll join in
I'd like to tell you that there's something more than this
I'd drink your blood if it would help
I'd like to teach you that to lose you have to be
There's always life in memory
10^14 is a masterpiece
It's an effigy of utopia
Even gods must expire
Sooner or later
This old carousel can be generous
But it wants its repayment with interest
And you should learn your place
Egotistical bastard
I'd like to tell you that there's something more than this
I'd drink your blood if it would help
I'd like to teach you that to lose you have to be
There's always life in memory, and it goes
I see a never-ending stream
I see the cosmos spiralling out to infinity
I see a billion billion creatures that have died in history
I don't see why you're so scared to leave
I don't see why you're so scared to leave

An archetypal rugged landscape of hills and lochs, as far as the eye can see. On closer inspection, there are some signs of habitation: buildings, roads, farms… but they … Continue reading Album of the Week: The Other Half of Everything → Bandcamp Album of the Day Nov 21, 2011
